On January 2, 2025, credit union representatives joined League and Velera staff to present a $10,000 check to Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children. Late last year, Velera invited credit unions and industry partners to submit short essays explaining why their community’s Children’s Miracle Network Hospital should be awarded one of 20 $10,000 grants. Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children is the ONLY maternity, newborn, and pediatric specialty hospital serving the state of Hawaii and the Pacific Basin. Most residents were either born at Kapiolani or have had children, grandchildren, and relatives born there. Ask any local family and they will have “Kapiolani stories” to tell. “Every single one of you played a role in Kapiolani being selected, and this incredible gift for our keiki and families wouldn’t have been possible without your heartfelt nominations and unwavering support,” said Joseph Block, Program Director, Kapiolani Children’s Miracle Network. He also noted this donation was the first received by Kapiolani for the new year. “We have some truly exciting plans for our Credit Union for Kids partnership this year, and we couldn’t be more grateful to have begun with this celebration of the $10,000 Miracle Momentum Award.” Mahalo to these credit unions and the League that submitted essays nominating Kapiolani in the Velera Miracle Momentum Award: Aloha Pacific FCU Garden Island FCU Gather FCU Hawaii Central FCU Hawaii Community FCU Hawaii Credit Union League Hawaii FCU Hawaii Schools FCU Hawaii State FCU Hawaii USA FCU Hawaiian Electric EFCU Hawaiian Financial FCU HFS FCU Hickam FCU Hotel and Travel Industry FCU Maui County FCU Maui FCU McBryde FCU Onomea FCU Pearl Hawaii FCU Schofield FCU Wailuku FCU
